A New Addition to Our Family

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, I hinted at big news a few days ago, and I am finally revealing what exactly this news is! On Friday, a new member was added to the family. She has brought so much joy to my whole family in just the two days we’ve had her. I am posting this to formally introduce you to her, and I hope you will find her just as adorable and special as I do.

Whoops! I forgot to tell you guys that she’s a hamster.

We adopted Fiona from my old teacher. My teacher’s daughter and her roommate thought that it would be fun to get a hamster for their dorm at college. However, the college has a rule against pets in the dorms, so my teacher had to keep Fiona, which would have worked out fine if my teacher didn’t already have three cats (do the math). So, my teacher put up a notice on my school’s website for a free hamster. My family was the only family that replied to the ad because every other family at my school already has a dog.

And now, I shall ambush you with two adorable pictures of Fiona.

My Fall/Winter 2015 Music Picks!

Hey guys! I know I haven’t been very good about posting recently…high school is SO much work! Anyway, I’m going to try to post once a week because writing this blog is what I love to do, and I want to keep making content for you guys because I LOVE ALL OF YOU SO MUCH!

There’s been a lot of great new music on the scene lately, and I feel the need to take a moment to appreciate all of it. So, without further ado, my Fall/Winter 2015 Music Picks!

“Hello” by Adele

Let’s be real here: there’s an Adele fangirl living within each of our souls. I was SO excited when I found out Adele was coming out with new songs for the first time in three years. I’ve been a fan of hers since I was 10 and “Rolling in the Deep” came out. In short, if you want feels that can only come from an Adele song, check this one out.

“Here” by Alessia Cara

I have some friends on the music scene, and they’ve been raving about Alessia ever since the summer. This 19-year-old’s haunting vocals on this extremely relatable track stand out on the radio airwaves. I guarantee this will be stuck in your head after listening to it just one time. If you like unique voices, then check this song out.

“Better When I’m Dancing” by Meghan Trainor

You’ll recognize this song if you’ve seen “The Peanuts Movie” (I know I have)! There’s something about this tune that just makes me want to get up and dance, even if I’m just jamming in my bedroom. Meghan actually wrote this song after a performance one night. She was feeling kind of down, but once she got onstage and started singing and dancing, she instantly felt better. As a dancer, I can totally relate to that message. Plus, the video is so adorable! It features Meghan dancing with her real-life friends and family. If you want a peppy tune that is guaranteed to have you grooving, check out this track for sure!

“Confident” by Demi Lovato

Leave it to my girl Demi to make all women everywhere to feel “Confident”! This song brings a whole new meaning to girl power! Demi went through a hard time a few years ago and this song is her swinging comeback. When life knocks you down, this song will make you get back up, better and stronger than before, just like Demi did.

“Focus” by Ariana Grande

I’m pretty sure it would be a felony if I made a “Best New Music of Fall/Winter 2015” list and forgot to include Ariana’s new single! This song has an energetic, fun beat that is sure to get any party started. Everyone else had better watch out, because my girl Ari is making the entire world “Focus” on her.

“I Know What You Did Last Summer (IKWYDLS)” by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello

Okay, the entire reason I made this list was a clever way to announce that SHAWN MENDES AND CAMILA CABELLO DID A COLLAB. I REPEAT, SHAWN MENDES AND CAMILA CABELLO DID A COLLAB. The story behind this song is (almost) even better than the song itself. Shawn and Camila were hanging out backstage this past summer at one of the concerts on Taylor Swift’s 1989 Tour because Shawn was one of her opening acts and Camila is one of Tay’s best friends. Anyway, Shawn never leaves home without his guitar, and he and Camila ran into each other. They knew each other from the Austin Mahone tour a few years ago, but they didn’t really talk on that tour because Camila wanted to hang out with her Fifth Harmony bandmates 24/7. They had 30 minutes before Shawn had to go onstage, and they were initially just fooling around with different melodies and verses. By the time Shawn had to perform, they had the pre-chorus and chorus to IKWYDLS. They then booked an 11-hour studio session to finish writing and recording the song. They actually recorded the song over the summer and dropped subtle hints that this song was going to be a thing over the last three months, but for the most part, this duet caught fans by total surprise, especially since Camila is already in Fifth Harmony. The song came out on iTunes at midnight on November 18th, and has been making waves–and starting relationship rumors–ever since!

More to come on Shawn and Camila–and more new music–soon!

My Reaction to Paris

Why can’t everyone see the value of a precious human life? A sibling, parent, grandparent, teacher, cousin, or friend to someone? Every single life on this planet matters. There are 7 billion reasons why this Earth is a special place, and Earth is a little less incredible when that number drops to 6,999,999,999. Every single human being has their own unique ideas and perspectives on the world, and everyone matters to someone. When that bomber killed those 128 innocent civilians, he killed the souls of the parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends of each of those victims. If each victim knew 100 people, that would be 12,800 people affected by these attacks, and if each of the people that the victim knew had 100 loved ones, that would be 1,280,000 people affected. The circle of victims just keeps expanding, but these numbers can barely begin to explain the loss felt by the whole world after these attacks. The thing about human loss is that when one human life is lost, everyone else can feel it. Even if we have never met the person that was killed, we know that the person was special and close with someone else and that the person had a unique perspective and ideas about how to make the world a better place. The amazing thing about humanity is our unique ability to feel compassion and love. When children are young and free from the prejudices of the world, they naturally love everyone and everything around them. Children of all different races, cultures, and beliefs can play together and love each other all equally. Children aren’t born with the capacity to hate in their hearts; hate must be taught to them by the adults in their lives. While children are young and free of the world’s cruel influence, they have respect and compassion for every single human life. If we could stop teaching our children to hate and start teaching them to tap into the love for all other lives that is in their hearts and souls, tragedies like this would never happen again. Even if you’re an adult, you still have love in your heart that is unaffected by prejudice and hate. Pay attention to the love, and kill everyone around you with kindness. Show compassion for every single human life, because everyone matters to someone else.

Sorry this was so long-winded, I’m just so saddened and angered by all of the events in Paris and I’m sick and tired of bad things happening in the world. Killing others has never made this world a better place. We have to learn to peacefully coexist with every other human and animal life on this planet because that’s just the reality of living.
