2014 in review for MaisieTheWriter

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,600 times in 2014. If it were a cable car, it would take about 27 trips to carry that many people.

Introducing: Fifth Harmony!

Introducing Fifth Harmony

As usual, I’m super into music, and I’m always looking for cool new artists. Luckily, my friend *cough cough BRYANA SALAZ cough cough* introduced me to a fabulous girl group called Fifth Harmony. Fifth Harmony is a group of five girls (hence the name “Fifth Harmony”) that were put together by Simon Cowell on the second season of the American hit reality singing competition, X Factor. The members of Fifth Harmony (dubbed 5H by fans) are Camila Cabello, Ally Brooke Hernandez, Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane Hansen, and Normani Kordei Hamilton. I will now provide information on each individual member of 5H.

Camila Cabello

Born in Cuba, Camila Cabello moved between Havana and Mexico during the first five years of her life before relocating to Miami at age 6. Camila was always very shy, and never sang outside of her bedroom until her X Factor audition. During her audition, she claimed that she “never wanted those two minutes to end.” It was during this audition that Camila realized that she wanted to perform for the rest of her life. Growing up around Latin music, Camila has cited Celia Cruz and Alejandro Fernandez as two of her biggest early influences. Camila, also known as Camz, is seen as the “funny and adorable” member of the group because she is always cracking jokes. She loves wearing hair bows, and during her free time, she likes to watch One Direction videos and (surprise, surprise) sing karaoke.

Normani Kordei Hamilton

Normani “Mani” Kordei Hamilton was born in Atlanta, then moved to New Orleans, then moved to Houston in 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina. Her roots as a gospel singer greatly influence her vocal style. Before she started singing, Mani was an award-winning gymnast and dancer. She recorded her first single at age 13, and has played several small roles in movies and TV shows. Normani cites Beyonce as her biggest musical influence. Of Beyonce, she says, “I look up to her so much. When I’m on stage I pretend to be her. Her alter ego is Sasha Fierce and mine is Beyoncé herself. This helps keep my nerves from getting the best of me because in general I am pretty shy.”

Lauren Jauregui

The rich, mature vocal tone that Lauren Jauregui possesses adds texture and richness to 5H’s blended, harmonized sound. Born in Miami, Florida, Cuban-American Lauren started singing at age two. She did a few talent shows as a young kid and performed the national anthem when she was in fifth grade. She never intended to make music her career, but when she was 16, Lauren auditioned for X Factor out of thirst for the approval of world-renowned talent-discovering mogul Simon Cowell. Of the intentions behind auditioning for X Factor, she explains: “It had been my dream to sing for Simon and for him to tell me I was good.” Lauren is very close with her family, and she considers herself an outgoing person. She has stated on multiple occasions that she loves meeting and interacting with new people.

Ally Brooke Hernandez

Weighing in at birth at 1 pound, 4 ounces, Ally started screaming upon entering the world, which is very uncommon for prematurely born babies. This convinced her dad that his daughter was born to sing. Ally was born in San Antonio, Texas, and being of Mexican descent, is greatly influenced by Tejano sensation Selena Quintanilla. Of Quintanilla, Ally says: “she is my favorite artist of all time. I loved her so much. What I liked was her sweet spirit, cheerful personality. Not only did she have an amazing stage presence, a beautiful voice, and a vibrant personality, but she also had such charisma and a big heart. She cared for her fans deeply and always showed so much love to everyone. She made me want to become an artist.” Ally has been a singer since the age of nine.

Dinah Jane Hansen

Dinah Jane hails from Santa Ana, CA. She started singing at the age of four because she wanted to impress her mother, who was a singer in a reggae band. She is of Tongan and Polynesian descent, and she grew up in a 4-bedroom house with 23 other people. She is known as the “sweet girl” of the group, and comparisons have been made between her and Beyonce due to her crazy range. Dinah is also the youngest girl in the group.
