Technology Break

Technology Break

By Maisie Kramer

Sometimes, I like to take

A technology break

And enjoy life’s simpler pleasures.

Sometimes, I log off of Instagram

And take a long stroll on the beach

With Granny.

Sometimes, it lasts for hours

And we talk about how lovely it is

To take a technology break.

Sometimes, I like to shut off my phone

And read a book

Or build a fort

Or draw a picture

Or write a story

Or simply listen to waves crashing

Against the shore.

Life doesn’t happen on a phone.

It happens when you take a technology break

And enjoy life’s simpler pleasures.

Review of D’Lux Nail Salon and Spa

Review of D’Lux Nail Salon and Spa in Hull, MA

Picture this: you’re on the South Shore of Massachusetts. You’ve been dying to get a pedicure, manicure, and/or waxing for months, and you figure, “Well, now’s as good of a time as any,” and head to Google. When you Google “nail salon and spa on the south shore ma,” a plethora of results come up and you don’t know which spa to set up an appointment at. Well, I’m here to convince you that the place you’re looking for is, without a doubt, D’Lux Nail Salon and Spa in Hull, MA. When I first walked into D’Lux, I was pleased to discover that the facility itself is very clean, modern, and well-maintained. It was my first time getting waxed and I was really nervous about it because I thought it would hurt. It only actually hurt for five seconds! It kind of felt like ripping off a giant bandage. If you have low pain tolerance but still want to get waxed, book a waxing appointment with Rose. She is very wonderful at being careful not to hurt you in the process of waxing. Rose is extremely patient and caring and she puts baby powder on your skin so that your skin doesn’t get damaged in the process of waxing. I actually felt cleaner after my wax and my legs are so smooth, I can’t stop rubbing them! Rose also did a fantastic job on my pedicure and even painted flowers on my toes! They look really pretty, and Rose is a true artiste.

The person who did my mom’s pedicure and waxing was Vivian, who is coincidentally Rose’s daughter. My mom says that Vivian is, “very calming and gave me great assistance in choosing a nail color.” My mom’s nails also looked fantastic and she felt like a “whole new woman” after her waxing. Vivian also did my grandmother’s waxing and my grandmother describes her as “pleasant, careful, and relaxing.”

Overall, all three of us were incredibly pleased with our experiences at D’Lux Nail Salon and Spa. The staff members were incredibly friendly. By the end of our appointment, we were exchanging cell phone numbers and taking selfies together! I would give D’Lux 5 out of 5 stars. It was a fantastic, relaxing, and transformative experience for Granny, Mom, and me.

My Rant on Jason Derulo’s “Wiggle”

If you’ve listened to pop music at any point in the past few months, you have probably stumbled upon the song “Wiggle” by Jason Derulo featuring Snoop Dogg (or is it Snoop Lion? Make up your mind, Snoopy!). I first heard this song at a bat mitzvah I attended, and I decided to listen to the full version on YouTube, and my first thought was: “is this a JOKE?” I thought this because out of all of the songs that dehumanize women on the radio today, and believe me, there are WAY too many of them, this song would be the official anthem of the Misogynist Society of America.
The main message of the song is that the most important thing about a girl is her butt. Apparently, according to Jason Derulo, a girl is more attractive if she has a big butt. Literally, some of the lyrics of the song are: “Hot damn it/Your booty like two planets/Go head, and go ham sammich/Whoa, I can’t stand it.” Another section of the song is: “I got one question/How do you fit all that…in them jeans?” Well, I’ve got a newsflash for you, Jason: A GIRL’S BUTT IS ONE OF THE LEAST IMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT A GIRL!!!!!!! The three most important things about a girl are NOT found on the outside, they are found in her heart. These 3 things are: kindness, kindness, and kindness. Think about this: would you rather have a girlfriend who is really pretty but disrespectful and unkind towards everyone, or a girlfriend who is not extremely “attractive” but is kind, generous, and respectful to everyone?
My advice to girls and women: Whenever you hear this song come on the radio, turn it off and listen to a song that is more respectful towards girls and women and acknowledges that girls and women are PEOPLE, not objects. The size of a girl’s butt doesn’t matter at all. All that matters is the size of a girl’s heart.
My advice to Jason Derulo: If all you care about in women is how attractive they are, go and get yourself some dolls to play with. Dolls are actually toys. Girls are not toys. Also, good luck with getting me to listen to any of your “music” again: it ain’t gonna happen.
